What Is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical term that's simply means an excessive release of water or sweat out of the body. There is a normal range of sweating that helps maintain the body's temperature, excessive sweating may in some cases alter the body's fluid level but they however cause no harm.

Although the exact causes aren't known yet, but they are however treatable by administering some medications or at worse undergo some surgeries.

Causes Of Hyperhidrosis.

If heavy sweating has no underlying medical cause they are called primary hyperhidrosis. They are usually caused when nerves become hyperactive, which calls for excess perspiration which is very common among adolescents and early adulthood.

Primary hyperhidrosis could be related to partial heredity or age groups. In adolescents hormones become increased, nerves become over-reactive.

If the sweating is associated with an underlying causes then they are called as secondary hyperhidrosis.

➨ Primary Or Idiopathic Focal Hyperhydrosis.

This type of hyperhydrosis tends to affect our body symmetrically especially on the palms of hands, soles of feet, face, scalp and armpits. Although the causes of this type are unknown, but studies have shown that they are caused by over-activeness of sweat glands which can be triggered by certain factors and at certain times. such as:
  • Heat
  • Foods [especially spicy ones]
  • Anxiety
  • Emotions.
The severity of this change change from time to time. over time the symptoms may improve and become less significant. the sweating we get after eating are called gustatory sweating.

Sometimes they can occur because some cells are more sensitive to stimuli than others, and they are most times linked to genetic factors.

➨ Secondary Focal Hyperhidrosis.
They happen in mostly surgical sites or injured areas. for example sweating may occurs around accident wounds and dislocations. This  Hyperhidrosis type rarely happens and are uncommon.

➨ Generalized Hyperhidrosis.
This type of excessive sweating is linked to an existence of an underlying medical condition. They are less common than the idiopathic Hyperhidrosis and causes excessive sweating all over the body some examples are:

They can be treat using these methods as follows:

1. Antiperspirant [ Aluminum chloride]

This antiperspirants are usually administered when the normal antiperspirant fails to work. They help reduce sweating in the armpit, soles of feet and palms of hands.

They some times cause severe side-effects like skin irritations and inflammations. But inflammations and skin irritations can be reduced when certain measures are taking they are:
  • Minimal use of antiperspirant.
  • Use of moisturizers on blistered area.
  • Use of steroid creams that help reduce inflammations.

Other treatments methods are:

1. Strict hygienic measures.

2.  Over-The-Counter Antiperspirant.
